How my work as an intern was meaningful to my education and the world around me can be expressed in a multitude of ways. First off, I learned more about what it takes to teach young children, as well as how to captivate their attention, realizing that it takes more flexibility than I thought was needed. Because I started my internship at the busiest point in the year for an elementary school, I was thrown into the cold deep end of the pool with with less mental preparation than I had initially set up; much like thinking that "Hey, this may not seem so cold!" Only to find out that it's a lot colder than you thought.
One of the new appreciations I have definitely obtained since becoming an intern was appreciation for my teachers throughout the years and all that they've done, because working with so many children all the time has opened my eyes to the other side of my daily life. As a student, I experience the side of academic life that is on the receiving end of the product of a teacher's planning, and usually only for one of their classes before moving on to something different. But throughout this internship, I have learned much about what lies beyond. There's several classes each teacher has to go through, and alongside that each class has their own distinct personalities. Because a student normally deals with that single personality, they don't deal with the troubles that come with other classes and different times of day.

Interview with my mentor, Ms. Vinetz:
How did you get your job? She used to work at a different school district. She wanted to work full time, and heard about working as a HTe art teacher full time. What sorts of qualifications did you need, and how did you obtain them? To get the job, she needed a college degree, a teaching credential in art, and a credential to teach English language learners. She has 11 years teaching art before she got to HTe; she has been at HTe for four years. She also wrote a blog, k6art.com, with lesson plans online. This was her online portfolio and has 300 blog posts. What kinds of general advice do you have for people working with young children? Ms. Vinetz suggests that teachers find engaging work for the students, because if it’s not interesting enough, they’re gone. She wishes that people knew about classroom management and the difficulty managing it. For the readers that missed the intro on the front page, or simply started browsing on this one, I'm Nicole, and this blog will be focusing on the topic of an internship approved by High Tech High North County. Going through different internships and all they cover is a very rewarding duty to be taking on. From the start of May onwards, I'll be relaying my experiences with internship I have selected, and all that it encompasses. Alongside this blog, feel free to browse the other pages that are tied to this digital portfolio, and I hope that the contents catch your interest.
